Shenzhen, a fishing hamlet known as Bao'an County until 1978, was the first city to be declared a special economic zone. This decision helped the region's economy and population grow. In less than three decades, Shenzhen's population has risen from 320,000 to more than 8.6 million! While contemporary attractions predominate, Shenzhen also has historic sites. Spend the day at Window of the World admiring artistic reproductions of world-famous sights, then go back in time to Dapeng Ancient City.
