For many years now I’ve been making Elderberry syrup at home. because it’s packed with antioxidants and immune-boosting vitamins. I feel that homemade remedies are overall better for my family’s health so I like to use them. Just one dose of this homemade Elderberry Syrup is a convenient and natural way of keeping away colds and cases of flu all throughout that tricky season.
This year, I realized that making Elderberry Syrup is much easier than I thought and even quicker with the use of the Instant Pot. It worked like a charm and I love any excuse just to use my Instant Pot. It also cooked and boiled down faster than the stove-top method, so give it a try. I know you’ll love it just as much as I do.
Here’s what you need
Standard dose to prevent cold and flu:
1 tsp daily for children and 1 tsp daily for adults.
In the event of sickness, take the same dose every 2-3 hours as necessary. Disclaimer: I am only sharing this recipe for personal use. Please seek advice from a medical professional and do your own research on home remedies before taking them. This is not intended to replace expert opinion. Instant Pot Elderberry Syrup makes approximately 1 pint
Ingredients 1 cup dried Elderberries 3 cups of water 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1/2 tsp whole or ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg 2/3 cup raw apple cider vinegar 1 cup honey
Instructions
Combine all ingredients except for the honey inside the Instant Pot and mix well. Place lid on Instant Pot and secure, set for 7 minutes on manual high pressure. Once the time is up, release the pressure and remove the lid. Use saute function and simmer so that liquid inside is reduced by half, for approximately 15-20 minutes. (Watch the pot to make sure it doesn’t burn.) Turn off Instant Pot once the liquid has reduced. Strain liquid to a bowl and let cool. Once cooled, stir in honey. Store into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 months.
