Upgrading from an apartment to a house is a significant event, the second stage of maturity after leaving your parents’ home. While moving from a flat to a house may appear straightforward - after all, it’s just a larger place to live with the same bed, kitchen, and bathroom – the fact that it’s larger means there are some additional considerations. A group of friends and a van
The amount of furniture you’ll need to move (sofas, chairs, tables, and cupboards) to furnish your new house will be substantial, and attempting it alone will almost certainly result in tears and a sore back. Invite some friends to assist with the heavy lifting, enticing them with the promise of a takeaway or some drinks, and even if you own a car, hire a man with a van for the large items. You may be able to cram bed frames into your boot, but it’s not easy, and you want moving to be a pleasant experience, not a horrific process.
Completion of the Space
With additional rooms, you’ll require additional furnishings, possibly entirely new ones, for a fresh start! This can become quite costly, so save up for it and consider spreading your purchases out. While you’ll want mattresses and a dining table immediately, that wood and glass coffee table you’ve been eyeing may have to wait a month or two. Another stuff to look forward to! If you prefer a little DIY and don’t mind doing some Internet searching, look for used furniture – if it’s solid wood, you can either leave it as-is or give it a sand and coat of paint to save hundreds.
Before you Relocate, Renovate
Any work you wish to undertake is much easier to accomplish before you’ve crammed the space with your belongings. While it may be the last thing you want to do, attempting to dismantle furniture and cover it up with sheets is far more inconvenient than spending a few days prior to your move ensuring everything is in order and tidy.
