These Forgotten Gems From the 2000s Will Give You Serious Nostalgia

It's hard to think about the days before streaming TV and social media filters, but in truth, it wasn't that long ago. The 2000s was a time when mp3 players seemed like the future, and song lyrics on our AIM profile were the coolest thing in the world. Times have certainly changed, but if you're feeling a little nostalgic, here are five entertainment gems from the 2000s.

The iPod

Ah, the days when smaller meant better. Phones were becoming the size of our thumbs and the iPod was this magical compact music player that could fit right into your pocket. This nifty thing replaced clumsy CD cases and even CD racks! Remember those?

Scheduled TV Shows

Remember waiting for an entire week for a new episode of your favorite TV show? And then discussing it as a group? These days, with day-long binges, it seems that style of TV is long forgotten. And before you've discussed it, you're already a season into the next show.

Mix CDs

There was nothing like the joy of burning your own CD for your crush or best friend. You would then have to think of the perfect mix name and write it on the CD in thick permanent marker. There was no going back. It wasn't easy work, but that's what made it so fun! The truly dedicated would even design a cover sleeve.

Your AIM profile

Today all our information, pictures, interests, and literally every "like" is strewn on our walls for the world to see, the 2000s profiles were a little more limited. Those were the days of quoting song lyrics or a meaningful poem. They had to be snapshots of your personality. These few words meant everything, who you were, and your status in the social hierarchy of high school. Yikes!

DVDs

Just the ads and the DVD menus themselves are nostalgic. And remember those piracy warnings? Finding your place in a movie also meant sifting through chapters. Box sets of your favorites were also a great thing to have. Yet another tangible thing gone forever.
