Looking for a nice beachy destination for your summer vacation? Look no further than Samos Island in Greece. Here is why.
The beaches are insane
There are many cool beaches around the world. What makes Samos so special? We’re happy you asked. The clear waters of the beaches are met with soft white sand, wild cliffs, and green nature the likes of which you’ve never seen. Plus, there are different levels of events and activities on different beaches so you can pick the one which best fits your vacation’s vibe. The most recommended beaches in Samos are Potokakim Tsamandou and Lemonakia. Those who are in an adventurous mood would love Seitani Beach, which is a little further away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions, but also less crowded.
The towns and villages are lovely
The small towns populating the island are tourist attractions in their own right. They are full of quaint boutiques, blue and white houses, and promenades to walk through. Simply dreamy. Especially impressive is the old city of Ano Vathi, which requires somewhat of an uphill walk but it’s so worth it. Make sure you reach Ai Giannakis in time to see the sunset.
Walking through the picturesque villages is like walking through a serene painting. Yes, even the ones with lots of tourists. If you only have time to visit one village, go with Manolates. Look through the many art workshops in the morning and then stopping for lunch at a local eatery by the main square.
The hikes are incredible
When you pack, don’t settle for a swimsuit and a pair of flip flops. Make sure to pack some hiking boots too, because the place is hikers’ heaven. The middle of the island is the home of Kerkis, a dormant volcano. The way to the top is full of trees, hike paths, and just beautiful nature. You can explore them by walking on your own, join a guided tour, or rent a jeep.
The local food is fabulous
Greek food is pretty straightforward. It relies heavily on n seafood, cheese, and olive oil, all made with top-notch ingredients. Need we say more? A few local eateries you might want to check out are the Four Seasons Restaurant, the Cafe del Mundo, and the Hippy’s Restaurant Beach Bar. Enjoy!
